Rosacea with Laser Therapy

SURGERIES PERFORMED BY DR. JASON EMER OF WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA

Rosacea is a chronic skin ailment that makes your face look red all the time. At first, it may look like a severe sunburn or blushing that doesn’t go away, but if it isn’t treated, it can get gradually worse and appear as severe acne. Regular sessions with laser therapy have been shown to be an effective treatment to keep the symptoms of rosacea away.

The Main Symptoms of Rosacea

People who suffer from rosacea may not all have the same symptoms. Here is a list of some of the most common symptoms:

• The face looks red most of the time
• The skin blushes easily
• Tiny blood vessels can be seen just beneath the surface of the skin
• Sensitive skin
• Tiny red bumps and pimples

Multiple types of rosacea can be treated with laser therapy. When you have a consultation, you can learn more about laser therapy and if it is a good option for your condition. If you have vascular rosacea, you may have broken blood vessels that are visible on your cheeks and nose. Laser therapy may be used to reduce these symptoms. An advanced form of rosacea may develop if the rosacea is not treated in the early stages. Laser therapy is often prescribed to treat this as well.

What is Laser Therapy?

There are several types of laser systems that may be used to address rosacea. Dr. Emer prefers to use the Aerolase microsecond YAG laser in combination with the Excel V, Venus Versa, Yellow Laser, Pulsed Dye Laser, or IPL photofacial, as well as a non-ablative fractional laser system like Clear + Brilliant. The treatment can be tailored based on the patient’s wants and needs. To see how Dr. Emer performs laser therapy for rosacea, click here.

A look back at one year ago today on @jasonemermd: ⁣ ⁣ REPOST:⁣ As we age, dilated blood vessels, angiomas and general redness of the face (AKA #rosacea) appear on the skin and can make people feel extremely self conscious. Typically genetic, rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that leaves the skin red, irritated and sensitive. We use Vascular laser treatments like @cuterainc’s #excelV delivers precision treatment to target these spots meticulously and in a few treatments help them disappear without scarring. Excel V’s super-precise laser wavelength allows extreme focus to targeted redness and blood vessels. There is no damage to the upper surface of the skin as the skin is protected with gel and a cooling tip. The direct cooling at the tip protects the surface and allows energy to go deep and precisely into the targeted area. With each flash of light the spots darken or spasm, indicating the treatment end point. Typically, it takes 2-3 treatments to see a reduction, and then 2-3 times a year treatment to keep this under control. Nothing cures this but vascular laser treatments, LED therapy with @lightstim, low energy lasers like @clearandbriliant_au, proper skin care and calming facials keep it manageable.⁣

The Main Benefits of Laser Therapy

Topical medications and antibiotics may reduce inflammation for a short time, but it is not recommended to use antibiotics as a long-term solution. The positive effects of laser therapy last much longer than any topical medication.

Before you begin any therapy, you should visit a specialist and have your rosacea examined. Only after a proper diagnosis should you start any treatment. If laser therapy is the best option to reduce the appearance of your rosacea, it will be recommended.
