Hyperpigmentation, Discoloration & Melasma
Hyperpigmentation is a broad term for chronic skin conditions that result in discoloration of the skin and irregular, uneven skin tone. Predominant in individuals with darker skin tones, melasma is one such lifelong condition, manifesting in dark patches and freckle-like spots on the forehead, nose, cheeks, chin, and above the upper lip as well as the forearms and neck. With an extensive history treating a wide range of skin conditions, Dr. Emer’s primary course of treatment for hyperpigmentation is a tailored sun protection and skin care regimen that incorporates the healing attributes of retinol, hydroquinone, kojic acid, glycolic acid, and vitamin C.
To kickstart the melasma or hyperpigmentation treatment process, Dr. Emer begins with a non-inflammatory, salicylic acid-based mask called Cosmelan, which causes the face to peel over the course of two weeks, targets pigmentation, smooths the skin, prepares the cells for subsequent laser treatments, and inhibits tyrosinase, an enzyme in the melanin formation process. Similarly, SilkPeel Dermalinfusion, when infused with vitamin C and Lumixyl, can brighten the skin and improve pigmentation, acne scars, sun spots, and irregular discoloration. The peel is followed by low-energy, low-density laser treatments—such as Venus Viva (a fractional radiofrequency laser) or Clear + Brilliant (a non-ablative fractional laser)—which directly address skin color and are safe for nearly all skin types. Laser treatments are often followed by in-office microneedling and chemical peels, which can reduce the risk of rebound hyperpigmentation.
A common and often genetic skin ailment characterized by diffused facial redness, dilated blood vessels, and swollen red bumps on the skin, rosacea is triggered and aggravated by a range of factors, including sun exposure, diet, and certain skin products. While rosacea is incurable, a long-term, customized maintenance plan can deliver visible improvements with minimal discomfort or downtime.
A pioneer of in the art of skin rejuvenation techniques, Dr. Emer employs a tailored combination approach to treat rosacea, including an assortment of targeted lasers. Using an Aerolase microsecond YAG laser, Dr. Emer heats the undersurface of the skin to remove redness, lift the blood vessels and pigmentation to the surface of the skin, improve the overall quality of the skin, and provide additional anti-aging benefits. This step is followed by a direct vascular laser treatment—with the Excel V, Venus Versa, Yellow Laser, Pulsed Dye Laser, or Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photofacial—which focuses superficially on the skin and treats problem areas independently. Dr. Emer then uses a low-energy, non-ablative fractional laser (such as Clear + Brilliant) to provide overall facial rejuvenation, improve sun damage spots, decrease pore size, and continue to lift pigmentation to the surface. Following these treatments, Dr. Emer’s in-house aestheticians apply custom-made solutions and masks to the treated areas to rehydrate the skin, protect it with antioxidants, and accelerate the healing process.
Patients with rosacea are encouraged to return to Dr. Emer’s office for regular treatments, including Aquagold Fine Touch, a microneedling technology that delivers bioactive compounds into the skin. After several treatments, the body begins to reabsorb the blood vessels, facial redness and blushing diminish, and the uncomfortable, discernible symptoms of rosacea begin to disappear. Patients often enhance these treatments at home with micro-rolling treatments, Retinol face masks, and specialized, organic skin care products that are safe for sensitive skin.
Aging Skin, Sun Spots, and Fine Lines & Wrinkles
Various factors contribute to wrinkled and damaged skin, including the aging process, genetics, environmental factors, and daily sun exposure. Of course, these lifelong conditions are not corrected with a single procedure; rather, a long-term commitment to regular maintenance and skin care treatments will produce the most effective, visible results.
With specific protocols tailored to younger and older individuals, Dr. Emer recommends that his patients adopt monthly skin care regimens, including low-density, non-ablative fractional lasers for facial rejuvenation; fractional Skinfinity radiofrequency (RF) with Sculptra injections to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and scars; facials with light peels; Eclipse MicroPen microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and growth factors; and Aquagold Fine Touch treatments. To enhance these monthly treatments, Dr. Emer will occasionally incorporate vascular laser treatments to address redness and to promote skin tightening.
Every 3 to 4 months, Dr. Emer advises that his patients undergo a light facial resurfacing treatment—either with the Erbium ablative laser or the non-ablative Fraxel—which combats wrinkles, reverses sun damage, reduces signs of skin cancer, improves the texture, color and tone of the skin, stimulates natural collagen production, and aids in collagen building over an extended period of time. These treatments are often paired with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photofacials, microneedling with RF, or deeper peels (such as RevePeel) to enhance textural improvements and further stimulate collagen production.
Once or twice per year, Dr. Emer’s patients benefit from a stronger laser resurfacing treatment—such as the CO2 laser, Renuvion/J-Plasma, TCA peel, or Jessner’s peel—which involve greater downtime but, when combined, can truly transform the skin and bring it back to life.

Skin burn treatment is an intricate, long-term process that is customized to each patient’s condition and skin type and varies depending on severity, location of the burn, and whether or not hypopigmentation has occurred. Renowned cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Jason Emer conducts an in-person consultation to craft a thorough long-term treatment plan for you, which often involves a combination of lasers—including Fraxel and Clear + Brilliant to restore pigment to the area and repair the skin—as well as growth factors, topical creams, and sun protection.
All skin burn treatments are performed consistently over an extended period of time to assist in the building process of healing the burn and to fully rejuvenate the skin.
With vast, invaluable experience in the treatment of a multitude of skin conditions, cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Jason Emer believes that the optimal treatment to reduce or shrink pores is monthly or bi-monthly facials, extractions, peels, and microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and growth factors in the hands of his skilled, in-house aestheticians. For further improvement, ongoing maintenance and pore prevention, Dr. Emer crafts a customized treatment plan incorporating non-ablative fractional lasers, fractional radiofrequency (RF) devices, the carbon dioxide-based CO2 or Erbium ablative lasers for facial resurfacing, YAG lasers for skin revitalization, the Aquagold Fine Touch microneedling technology and/or microneedling with RF.
To achieve more significant improvements, Dr. Emer uses TCA Cross—an advanced, specialized technique typically used for acne scarring treatments—in which trichloroacetic acid (“TCA”) is applied directly into the pores, causing microscabs to form in the desired areas and heal with new collagen.

Acne & General Scars
A renowned scarring and skin rejuvenation expert, Dr. Emer has an intention-driven, strategic approach to acne treatments: Each scar is treated individually based on its appearance and root cause. Depending on the types of scars and the severity of your condition, Dr. Emer draws upon numerous cutting-edge modalities and his own wealth of experience to create a personalized treatment plan.
In addition to microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and growth factors, Dr. Emer utilizes Intensif, a fractional radiofrequency (RF) microneedling device that uses micro-needles to deliver RF energy deep beneath the skin and stimulate long-term collagen production. Fractional, non-ablative lasers, such as the Fraxel or Clear + Brilliant, provide light resurfacing of the skin, while the ablative CO2, or carbon dioxide laser, vaporizes the entire outer layer of the skin, achieving a thorough resurfacing and regenerating new cells. To further enhance these treatments, Dr. Emer uses a YAG laser for skin rejuvenation; NovaThreads—or smooth resorbable threads overlapped in the desired areas—to increase volume beneath the skin; microdroplet Belotero filler injections to aid in rebuilding tissue in the affected areas; IPL photofacial, which delivers intense pulsed light beneath the skin to reduce redness and improve skin tone and texture; and various peels, including the Cosmelan face-peeling mask and RevePeel, to enhance textural improvements and further stimulate collagen production.

While stretch marks are not harmful or painful, these indented streaks on the skin can be a source of distress and reduced confidence for women and men alike. Following a one-on-one consultation, cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Jason Emer sketches out a comprehensive treatment plan using an advanced combination approach to ensure the most effective, long-term improvement.
To reduce the appearance of stretch marks, Dr. Emer avoids deep resurfacing treatments at all costs, as these treatments may inadvertently aggravate the condition. Instead, he concentrates on safe, low-strength treatments to build collagen over time and achieve gradual improvements. Using various state-of-the-art fractional devices and therapies—including non-ablative lasers, radiofrequency heating devices, and ablative lasers for more aggressive stretch marks—Dr. Emer resurfaces the skin and improves overall skin texture. For additional improvements, Dr. Emer incorporates microsecond YAG laser treatments for skin rejuvenation and vascular lasers to reduce redness in the affected area.
Dr. Emer enhances these laser treatments with Sculptra injections for natural collagen production and gradual skin tightening; monthly microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and growth factors; and LED light therapy to promote and accelerate healing. At home, patients can improve the outcome of their procedure through regular dermarolling treatments and ongoing, customized skin care protocols.
While some moles are painless and invisible to the public, these dark-colored growths on the skin can be painful, bothersome, or simply unattractive depending on their size, color and location. Dr. Jason Emer removes moles permanently and painlessly in a 5-minute procedure: first, a precision microblade “shaves” or removes the surface of the mole; Dr. Emer then uses laser treatments or electrosurgery to smooth the edges of the scar and prevent recurrence of the mole. In certain cases, Dr. Emer may use a YAG tattoo laser to address any deep, residual pigmentation that remains once the mole has been removed.
Following the procedure, Dr. Emer’s in-house aestheticians will craft an at-home skin care protocol tailored specifically to your skin; comprised of a silicone-based scar gel infused with the patient’s own growth factors, the skin care treatments are applied regularly for several weeks to promote and accelerate skin healing
A longtime pioneer of nonsurgical treatments for a multitude of conditions, Dr. Jason Emer performs hair removal procedures using state-of-the-art, non-invasive laser devices. The no-contact Aerolase Neo microsecond YAG laser delivers energy deep into the skin without burning the skin’s surface; an ideal treatment for dark skin types and isolated treatment areas, the Aerolase targets ingrown or unwanted hairs while simultaneously minimizing pores, tightening skin, and rebuilding collagen. To treat larger areas, the MeDioStar NeXT PRO—the fastest diode laser available on the market—uses a combination of wavelengths, high-frequency pulses, and an advanced cooling technology to ensure greater skin penetration and destroy the deepest hair follicles in the safest manner possible.
An authority in the aesthetic field, Dr. Emer’s expertise allows him to determine which lasers will produce the optimal outcome, craft a comprehensive, patient-specific treatment plan, and execute the treatment safely and effectively with long-term results.
A tattoo is a permanent insertion of ink beneath the skin; reversing this intentionally permanent procedure is a challenge and requires an aggressive treatment plan involving specialized lasers—including the TattooStar Q-Switched laser, a high-energy device with ultra-short pulses that “attacks” the skin pigmentation and aids in the removal of tattoos, permanent makeup, and pigmented lesions. To reduce blistering, swelling and scabbing of the treatment area, Dr. Emer utilizes the PFD Patch, a non-toxic perfluorodecalin (“PFD”) solution and medical-grade silicone patch, which are applied to the skin prior to treatment. The PFD patch absorbs the intense energy from the laser, improves the laser’s access to the tattoo, and lifts the pigment from the skin tissue.
With this advanced combination procedure, Dr. Emer can now perform multiple treatments in a single session and achieve quicker results with minimal pain, downtime and scarring.
Varicose, Spider & Reticular Vein Reduction
Once a complicated surgical procedure involving long incisions and vein removal, leg vein treatments are now achieved through Sclerotherapy, a minimally invasive procedure that addresses varicose, spider, and reticular veins. Varicose veins are the twisted, bulging veins that appear like blue or dark purple cords on the legs. Spider veins, a common variant of varicose veins, are dilated capillaries on the skin that resemble spider legs. Reticular veins are less common and only about 2 mm in diameter; like spider veins, reticular veins do not protrude above the skin, but they can appear in clusters on the thighs, legs, ankles and face. For patients looking to reduce the appearance of these veins—whether for cosmetic reasons or to quell pain and discomfort—Sclerotherapy is a safe, effective treatment with minimal post-procedure downtime.
Using a polarized, infrared light, Dr. Emer inspects the veins through the skin so that he can target specific veins without disrupting the surrounding skin. He then injects a salt solution directly into each vein, causing them to collapse and ultimately disappear. To enhance the results of the procedure and ensure long-term improvement, Dr. Emer will often complement Sclerotherapy with the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photofacial and various laser treatments, such as Excel V, a dual-wavelength, long-pulsed YAG laser that treats both superficial and deep vascular conditions on all skin types.
