Skin Gym treatment: Vampire Facial

The next generation of microneedling, Microneedling with PRP is one of the most popular treatments to combat the signs of aging and maintain fresh, youthful skin. Dr. Jason Emer, a board-certified dermatologist and renowned expert in state-of-the-art skin treatments, uses microneedling with PRP (also known as the Vampire Facial for its infamous pinpoint bleeding) in order to:

  • • Diminish fine lines and wrinkles
  • • Reduce pigmentation long-term
  • • Deliver anti-aging benefits
  • • Improve skin texture and tone
  • • Reduce pore size
  • • Assist in the resolution of active acne and acne scarring
  • • Stimulate collagen production
  • • Provide essential, ongoing skin maintenance and a youthful glow

Dr. Emer also employs Microneedling with PRP as an effective post-procedural treatment. Microneedling the skin with natural growth factors and stem cells (such as A-cell) can enhance the outcomes of laser and radiofrequency treatments, accelerate the healing process, and reduce downtime, redness and swelling.

What is microneedling?

The perfect complement to a wide range of cosmetic procedures, microneedling has become Dr. Emer’s most popular treatment in the pursuit of skin rejuvenation and aging prevention. Microneedling is a quick, minimal-downtime procedure that allows for significant improvement in a series of treatments or as regular maintenance for skin texture, pore size, complexion, acne, melasma or discoloration, pigmentation, scarring, wrinkles, dark circles beneath the eyes, and numerous skin imperfections.

Using a portable handheld device, Dr. Emer penetrates the desired areas with miniature needles, triggering fine pinpoint bleeding and stimulating new collagen production. When microneedling is paired with radiofrequency (or Microneedling RF, such as Fractora or Morpheus8), then heat energy is simultaneously delivered to the sublayers of the skin, eliciting skin tightening and aiding in further collagen production.

What is PRP?

The PRP (platelet-rich plasma) used in our treatments is a high concentrate of protein derived from the blood. Blood is drawn from the patient and placed in a tube that, once spun in a centrifuge, separates natural growth factors and stem cells from red blood cells. In addition to helping our patients maintain a fresh, youthful appearance, PRP and stem cells can also be injected into the hair to promote stronger, thicker hair and hair regeneration; into the penis for improved erections and orgasms; and into the vagina for heightened stimulation and rejuvenation. This “Liquid Gold” solution has countless benefits, including addressing localized skin conditions such as acne, wrinkles, cellulite, and sun damaghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAtA3LEN1O4e.

Patients who are uncomfortable with synthetics will be pleased to learn that PRP is an all-natural alternative as it is derived entirely from your own blood.

How does it work?

Microneedling creates controlled micro-wounds in the deeper layers of the skin, which allows topical cosmeceuticals (serums, growth factors, stem cells, and PRP) to be pushed deeply into the skin and further improve the skin’s quality. Dr. Emer will often do several “passes” of microneedling or use various depths of the microneedling needles depending on the thickness of the patient’s skin.

By using a “stamping” or pulsing technique over localized problem areas — including active acne, acne scars, general scars, dark circles under the eyes, crow’s feet, and neck or chest lines — Dr. Emer can go deeper into the skin and address these specific areas with enhanced collagen production.

As a regular “Skin Gym” maintenance treatment, Dr. Emer recommends scheduling a Vampire Facial at least once or twice per month to keep your skin looking youthful and radiant.

Why is Microneedling with PRP beneficial after other procedures?

When used immediately after laser or radiofrequency treatments, Microneedling with PRP can improve the outcome of the procedure, hydrate and rejuvenate the skin, activate skin healing and repair, stimulate collagen production, reduce inflammation and redness, and assist with absorption of nutrients and topicals. In short, Microneedling with PRP allows the procedure to work better, allows you to heal faster, and gives you better, long-term results. In the end, patients experience an improved aesthetic outcome as well as a substantial reduction in their downtime.

As an added bonus, PRP also decreases sensitivity, thereby permitting patients with sensitive skin (and conditions such as rosacea, dermatitis, or acne) to take advantage of more aggressive laser and microneedling treatments.

Due to its intrinsic healing properties, Microneedling with PRP is a key step in any combination Facial Rejuvenation procedure involving lasers, fillers and neuromodulators (including cosmetic “freezers” such as Botox, Dysport or Xeomin).

How long is the treatment?

The duration of the treatment is about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on whether Microneedling with PRP is performed alone or in combination with lasers, peels, or radiofrequency treatments.

Is the Vampire Facial painful?

With topical numbing cream applied 15 to 60 minutes prior to treatment, there is typically only minimal pain experienced with Microneedling with PRP.

What is the downtime of the Vampire Facial?

On average, our patients experience 3 to 5 days of redness and swelling after Microneedling with PRP, depending on the depth of the needles and number of passes used. Following the treatment, Dr. Emer and his expert aestheticians and physician assistants use post-treatment hyaluronic acid, vitamins, antioxidants, growth factors, and stem cell products to accelerate healing and minimize downtime.
