XEOMIN

Conveniently located to serve Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Los Angeles, NYC, and Miami.

Dr. Jason Emer, board-certified cosmetic dermatologist, is world-renowned for his facial sculpting and rejuvenating procedures. He is considered a top provider of Xeomin in Beverly Hills and frequently incorporates this neuromodulator into his comprehensive, patient-tailored treatment plans to smooth out deep facial wrinkles and restore a youthful facial appearance.

Xeomin is often used to treat existing facial creases, but it is also an effective wrinkle prevention procedure. Younger patients who want to avoid developing dynamic wrinkles and those who want to stop facial lines from deepening and becoming more prominent can benefit from Xeomin as part of an anti-aging regimen.

WHAT IS XEOMIN?

Xeomin is an injectable neuromodulator that is primarily used to relax dynamic wrinkles throughout the face. Dynamic wrinkles are caused by the movement of facial muscles, such as those involved when we frown, smile, laugh, or express surprise.
Xeomin contains a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin type A, which is the same active ingredient in Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau. All of these neuromodulators work to release movement lines by stopping nerve signals from reaching the treated muscle(s). This prevents the muscles from contracting and creating visible facial creases.

Xeomin is FDA-approved for moderate and severe glabellar lines, the “11” lines that appear between the eyebrows when we frown, as well as certain medical conditions. Expert injectors like Dr. Emer also use Xeomin for off-label treatments, including:

  • Bunny lines (horizontal lines on the upper nasal bridge)
  • Crow’s feet (fine lines at the outer corners of the eyes)
  • Gummy smile
  • Jawline contouring
  •  Nasolabial folds (creases that extend from the nose down to the outer corners of the mouth)
  • Vertical neck bands

RIGHT FOR YOU?

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR XEOMIN?

If you are concerned about preventing or minimizing wrinkles that appear when you make facial expressions, Xeomin may be the ideal solution for restoring a more youthful look. It is important that candidates are generally healthy and have reasonable expectations for the procedure.
Patients who are considering neuromodulator treatments but have issues with allergies and sensitivities are often better candidates for Xeomin than for Botox, Dysport, or Jeuveau, due to the purity of the product.
In addition to its cosmetic applications, Xeomin has FDA-approval for the treatment of multiple medical issues. Patients suffering from eye spasms (blepharospasm), neck pain related to a condition called cervical dystonia, and spasticity in the upper limbs can also be candidates for Xeomin.

PROCEDURE DETAILS

HOW DOES XEOMIN WORK?

Xeomin procedures are non-surgical and are performed on-site at Dr. Emer’s medical practice. First, the treatment area(s) will be cleansed. A topical numbing agent can be applied at this time to reduce discomfort during the injections. Dr. Emer will then inject precise amounts of Xeomin into the targeted muscle(s). The number of injections will depend on the size of the treatment area and your cosmetic goals. A very fine needle is used, so the treatment is not painful. Patients typically experience a mild pinching sensation with each injection.

Initial improvements will be noticeable within three to seven days after your Xeomin injections. It can take up to 14 days for the product to take full effect, so you’ll want to schedule your treatments at least that far in advance of any special occasions.

HOW IS XEOMIN DIFFERENT FROM BOTOX, DYSPORT, AND JEUVEAU?

Xeomin provides the same effects as other neuromodulators but is free of inactive proteins and additives found in its competitors’ products. Xeomin’s formulation of botulinum toxin type A is the most purified version available, earning it the nickname, “naked Botox,” and making it more appealing to many patients.

During Xeomin’s manufacturing process, accessory proteins are removed from the neurotoxin. These proteins are inconsequential to the neurotoxin’s function, but they can cause allergic reactions in some patients.

Additionally, the accessory proteins found in Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau are associated with reduced efficacy of the product over time. This protein-related desensitization is not an issue with Xeomin, due to their absence from the product.

HOW LONG DOES XEOMIN LAST?

Xeomin prevents muscle contractions for three to four months, on average. Without retreatment, the muscles will become active again, and your facial creases will return. Dr. Emer can advise you regarding the best retreatment schedule for you to maintain consistent results.

HOW DOES DR. EMER DO XEOMIN DIFFERENTLY?

Dr. Emer understands the importance of strategic injection sites and proper dosage when using neuromodulators like Xeomin. His knowledge of facial anatomy and his dermatological training are incredible assets when using cosmetic injectables, and he considers many factors when selecting injection sites to ensure the safest, most effective treatment possible.

Dr. Emer uses a conservative dosing approach to be sure that patients retain adequate facial movement for a natural-looking outcome. Dr. Emer would rather have a patient return to the office for supplemental “touch-up” injections than to produce an “overdone” look that lasts three to four months.

Another aspect of Dr. Emer’s exceptional Xeomin treatments is his ability to use it in combination with other treatments to achieve maximum improvements. His multi-faceted, patient-specific treatments often involve Xeomin injections in conjunction with:

  • Dermal fillers
  • Chemical peels
  • Laser skin treatments
  • Thread lifting
  • Energy-based skin tightening with Ultherapy or Thermage

XEOMIM RECOVERY AND AFTERCARE

One of the reasons patients love Xeomin treatments is that they don’t have to take time away from their normal routine to recover. Headaches, bruising, and/or swelling may occur for up to a day or two after your injections, though these symptoms are generally mild.

If necessary, you can gently apply ice packs to the injection sites, as directed by Dr. Emer, to minimize post-treatment discomfort. Over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications like acetaminophen, aspirin, or ibuprofen can also be used to mitigate post-treatment symptoms.

You will be advised to take a few precautions for the first 24 hours after your injections to prevent the injected Xeomin from spreading outside the intended area. These guidelines include avoiding strenuous activity, such as high intensity exercise, and abstaining from rubbing the treated area. You will also need to stay in an upright position for the first couple of hours after your injections.
